Questions We Hear a Lot

What will my move cost?

It comes down to two things: how much you are moving and how tough the access is. A truck with two movers starts at $115/hr, and you get a written, line-item estimate before we touch the first box. Want a hard ceiling? Ask us to set a flat cap, and the number you sign becomes the most the bill can reach. For moves that cross state lines, we switch to pricing by weight and distance.

My Brookside bungalow has a tight, steep staircase. Is that a problem?

That is right in our wheelhouse. The old brick houses across Brookside, Waldo, and Hyde Park come with steep original staircases, pinched doorways, and low basement headroom. We read every turn, pad the jambs and railings, and hoist or hand-carry anything that will not round the corner, just as we have done since 2015.

Can you take on a loft or condo move that requires a building COI?

Yes, we do these constantly. Plaza condos and the loft conversions in the Crossroads and River Market want a certificate of insurance on file and the freight elevator held for a fixed window. We send the COI over to building management, lock the elevator, pad the cab and corridors, and wrap up inside your booked slot so the dock frees up on time.

There is no driveway and the parking is tight. Can you still pull it off?

That is no problem, and we do it on most Westport, Midtown, and older-neighborhood jobs. Give us the address when you book and we line up the truck spot, the loading zone, or the apartment dock, then tailor the carry to whatever room the street leaves us. Our crew rolls up expecting to load right off the curb instead of a driveway.

When does billing start?

The clock starts the moment the crew gets to work at your door, not when we pull out of the yard. Past the first hour we bill to the minute, so seventy minutes stays seventy minutes and never gets rounded up to a flat two hours. Before anyone lifts a box, you already know the crew rate and how we count travel time.

Do you take a deposit?

Just a small refundable one to hold your date, and it lands on your final total as a credit, so none of it is ever lost. Give us a couple of days’ notice to cancel and every cent comes back to you. It is all spelled out in your booking from the very start.

How and when do I pay?

You owe nothing until the job is done, not a minute sooner. Cards, checks, and cash all work here. Before the crew heads out, you go over the final total with them at your door and sign off on it.

Are tips expected?

Never, and we would never slip one onto the invoice on the sly. When a crew really earns it, a lot of folks hand over ten to fifteen percent for the team to split, by cash or card, but that call is entirely yours.

Is there anything you won’t load?

Just a short list, and it all comes down to safety and the law: propane, gasoline, paint, and anything flammable, plus ammunition, houseplants, food that spoils, and pets. Have something oversized, extra heavy, or especially valuable? Let us know at booking so we send the right crew and gear.

Are you licensed and insured?

We are. 2 Dudes And A Truck holds Missouri and Kansas household-goods authority and full insurance, and your job rides with our own crew from start to finish, with no broker sneaking in to take a cut. We are happy to go over the authority numbers and coverage with you, and we will talk through your valuation options before anything is set.

What if a piece gets damaged?

Careful padding makes it rare, but if a piece does take a hit, we note it right then and open the claim that same afternoon. Ahead of the job we walk through released versus full-value coverage, so you know exactly how a claim would play out.

How far ahead should I book?

For a run-of-the-mill local move, a week or two of lead time usually does it. Month-ends and peak summer book up fast, so aim for three or four weeks then, with a bit more cushion for a Saturday. Last-minute slots do open up, though, so a quick call never hurts.

Will you take on pianos, gun safes, and pool tables?

Yes, and our crew moves them week in and week out. Upright or grand, a loaded gun safe, a slate pool table, a family heirloom, or a framed canvas, each one rides the right board or dolly under proper straps and pads, and we build a custom crate whenever a piece calls for one.

Will you handle the packing?

However much you would like. Need the whole house boxed? Consider it done. Only the kitchen and the artwork? That works too. We show up with heavy-duty cartons and paper, label every box by room, and once the truck is empty we will unpack you at the new place.

Do you move out of state?

Yes, and your load stays on one truck with the same crew from pickup all the way to drop-off. It is never handed to a broker, never swapped into a stranger’s trailer at some depot, and you get a delivery window you can genuinely plan around.

Do you have storage?

We do. Whether you are covering a short gap between closings or a few months before the next place is ready, your belongings rest in a clean, locked space with every item logged. Our own crew hauls it in and later back out, so you never have to rent a truck twice.

I’m moving to Kansas City from out of town. Can you help?

Absolutely, a big share of our work is folks moving into the metro, plenty of them here for a new job or to get closer to family. We set the delivery window, meet you at the new place, and handle the parking, the building COI, or the freight elevator on our end. Your things ride on our truck with our crew, and they are never sold off to whoever bids lowest that week.

Can I move or cancel my date?

Of course. Give us at least two days’ notice to reschedule or cancel and your full deposit comes right back. Every term is spelled out in plain words on your booking, so nothing is left to guesswork.
